The Texarkana, Arkansas Advertising and Promotion Commission has awarded more than $286,000 in grants to support tourism projects and events across the city.
The funding, generated through a local hotel and restaurant tax, will help pay for festivals, sporting events, downtown activities, marketing, and other attractions designed to bring visitors to the Arkansas side of Texarkana.
Among the largest grants were $64,000 for tourism marketing at Texarkana Regional Airport, $58,000 for events at Front Street Plaza, and $31,000 for the Texarkana Airshow.
Commission Chairman Ulysses Brewer said the goal is to attract more overnight visitors and boost spending at local hotels and restaurants.
