Two sexual assault victims—a 14-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman—faced delays in receiving exams at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana after being told no certified SANE nurse was available.

Two sexual assault victims—a 14-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman—faced delays in receiving exams at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana after being told no certified SANE nurse was available. Families say they were advised to return hours later or travel over an hour to another hospital.

St. Michael is not a state-designated SAFE-Ready facility. In one case, a suspect has been arrested; in the other, the accused remains at large. Concerns have been raised over access to timely, trauma-informed care.
