The former Lantz Lurry Juvenile Detention Center in Texarkana, Arkansas, is slated for demolition after the city board approved a contract Monday.

The board approved a 60-thousand-dollar agreement with Francis Excavating to demolish the building and remove trees from the property.

City officials say the bid came in well below the engineer’s original estimate. The project will be paid for entirely through a state grant, with no local tax dollars involved.

The detention center served the region for nearly 30 years before closing permanently in December 2022.
