A Bowie County jury has sentenced former Telford Unit inmate Tre Lee Jackson, 32, to life in prison for his role in a prison contraband operation that smuggled drugs and cell phones into the New Boston correctional facility.

Jackson, a confirmed gang member, was convicted of engaging in organized criminal activity and received one life sentence and two additional 60-year prison terms. Prosecutors said the scheme involved inmates and correctional officers who accepted payments to bring contraband into the prison.

The investigation led to indictments against 19 people, including nine former prison employees and 10 inmates. Authorities say multiple local, state, and federal agencies worked together on the year-long investigation.

Several others connected to the alleged conspiracy continue to face charges, including organized criminal activity and bribery.
