A nonprofit organization is working to improve community safety and reduce substance abuse across the Texarkana area.

The Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership was created to distribute settlement funds from opioid manufacturers and distributors to cities and counties throughout Arkansas.

Director Kirk Lane says the program has already funded eight projects in Texarkana, including support for Bridging the Gaps of Arkansas.

Lane says the efforts are helping increase education, reduce stigma, and encourage communities to work together to address substance abuse.

Meanwhile, National Drug Take Back Day is set for April 25. The event allows people to safely dispose of unused medications to prevent misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental harm.
