The store has been a local staple for decades but is shutting down as the company transitions to a wholesale and license model. Clearance sales are already underway, with discounts up to 50 percent. The closure leaves the south side of Texarkana without a grocery store, adding to recent business losses in the area.
Save-A-Lot was founded in 1977 in Illinois and grew into one of the nation’s largest discount grocery chains.
