A Texarkana woman is facing a capital murder charge after an 8-month-old infant died from injuries police say were sustained while in her care.
According to the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, officers responded to a medical emergency on June 29 at a home in the 3600 block of Old Blackman Ferry Road. The infant was unresponsive and was treated by LifeNet before being taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a children's hospital in Little Rock.
Police say babysitter Cherish Starks was arrested that day on a first-degree battery charge. After the infant died on July 1, investigators upgraded the charge to capital murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
