Texarkana College is preparing local students for potential jobs created by the growing lithium industry across the ArkLaTex.

The college’s chemistry department is working with EnergyX and French Evaporation to give students hands-on experience with lithium extraction, chemical processing, and industry technology.

College officials say the region’s lithium deposits could create thousands of jobs for chemists, lab technicians, engineers, and other skilled workers.

Texarkana College Dean Catherine Howard says the industry could also encourage more students to pursue careers in STEM fields while staying close to home.
