Starting Sunday, August 31, Texarkana Water Utilities will switch its water disinfectant from chloramine to free chlorine for about six weeks as part of routine system maintenance.

The water will remain safe to drink, though customers may notice a slight chlorine smell or discoloration. Officials say the change helps maintain water quality and has been done in past years.
