Texarkana’s first local memorial marker was dedicated over the weekend in Spring Lake Park, honoring third baseman Eddie Matthews. He spent 17 seasons in the majors, mostly with the Braves in Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta. Matthews is the only MLB player from Texarkana in the baseball Hall of Fame and the seventh player in major league history to hit over 500 home runs.
